AIDA Instructor course

If you are a skilled AIDA 4 freediver (or equivalent) and aspire to become a professional in freediving, the AIDA Instructor Course offers the knowledge and training necessary to launch your professional career. Throughout the course, you will gain insights into becoming a teacher, trainer, and coach, with a primary focus on instruction. The theoretical component will cover teaching methods, identifying technique errors, and assisting individuals in overcoming mental barriers.

This course is highly intensive, both physically and mentally, and candidates must already have a strong proficiency in freediving to meet the specified depth and time requirements. The main goal of the AIDA Instructor course is to equip you with the skills to teach others how to freedive safely and competently according to AIDA standards. If you feel you need extra training for or are close to meeting the requirements for passing the IC, a preparatory training period can be arranged to help you get ready for the instructor course.

As a performance-based program, candidates are held to high standards. You are expected to have the right mindset to become a freediving instructor, possess a thorough understanding of theory, and demonstrate excellent freediving skills and experience before enrolling. This course is intense yet enjoyable and rewarding, and we are committed to supporting you with the necessary tools to become a successful teacher and achieve the esteemed title of AIDA Freediving Instructor!

Throughout the course, you will:
– Familiarize yourself with AIDA standards and materials
– Enhance your instructor-level theory and in-water skills essential for teaching freediving courses
– Learn about student management and the organizational aspects of safely conducting a freediving course
– Gain confidence in identifying and addressing common issues encountered during freediving courses through various scenarios
– Acquire knowledge on teaching-related aspects such as legal responsibilities, risk management, marketing, and the business of freediving
– Demonstrate awareness and commitment to marine conservation during freediving activities

Course Theory Content includes:
– Course introduction
– Communication techniques
– Conducting classroom sessions
– Conducting pool sessions
– Conducting open water sessions
– Budgeting, marketing, and planning
– Risk management
– Full body warm-up stretching and the freedive breathing cycle

Full Requirements:
– Open Water: CWT 40-50m / FIM 40-50m / CNF 20m / Long duration 30m dives in CWT & FIM
– Pool: DYN 90m / DNF 50m / STA 4-5 minutes
– Rescues: 15m with 1-minute hang / 25m + 50m surface tow
– Stamina: 5x 20m (1-minute break in between)
– Written Exams: AIDA 2, 3, 4 student exams + 3x Instructor exams
– Teaching Exams: Breathing and Stretching, AIDA2 and 3 open water & pool, AIDA2 and 3 theory
– Special Presentation: Oral presentation & written paper

Duration: minimum 9 days

Prerequisites: AIDA4 freediver or equivalent and a crossover evaluation. Must hold a current and valid First Aid with CPR qualification and be 18 years of age or older.

Remark: The AIDA instructor course does not guarantee a pass; candidates will only pass if they meet all requirements to a satisfactory standard.
