Pim Vermeulen

Immersion Freediving was established in 2002 by Pim Vermeulen, a Dutch-born AIDA Instructor Trainer, AIDA Judge Instructor, CMAS Judge, and 9-time National record holder. Pim has been passionate about freediving since 1997, earning his AIDA Instructor and Judge certifications back in 2001. He made Egypt his permanent home at the end of 2012. Pim is known for his personal approach and made to measure courses and coaching, He coached both beginners as well as high level athletes.

Immersion Freediving founder Pim Vermeulen has had a deep passion for freediving since 1997 and achieved his AIDA Instructor and Judge certifications in 2001. Pim’s freediving career began in 1997 as an athlete, has trained under renowned instructors such as Aharon & MT Solomons, Loïc Leferme and Umberto Pelizzari.

Starting his coaching journey in 2000, Pim’s first notable athlete was Renate de Bruijn, who achieved two World records in DNF shortly after training began. His coaching roster has since expanded to include athletes like Mandy Sumner (World Champion CNF 2015), Anastasia Yakymenko, and Lyndsay Bilodeau. He also organizes training weeks for athletes such as multiple world record holders, William Winram and Rodolfo Robatti.

Over the years, Pim has certified hundreds of freedivers, instructors, and judges, and has introduced around 2000 scuba divers to freediving through his specialized sessions. He has played a significant role in organizing numerous competitions and World Championships and has served as a judge for countless record attempts. Currently Pim is THE most experienced judge and judge instructor within AIDA.

Since 2004, Pim is part of the AIDA Executive Board as Technical Officer and Sport Officer and currently as Judge Responsible, contributing to both the Technical and Education Commission. He founded the NFDB, the first AIDA national in the Netherlands, and was board member / co-founder of AIDA Egypt. In his current function, he is overseeing all AIDA judges, participating in the AIDA Technical Committee developing the competition rules and regulations, and rewriting and expanding the AIDA judge education and the AIDA Judge Internal Operation Procedures.

Renowned for his extensive freediving experience and tailored coaching methods, Pim has 25 years of teaching expertise, focusing on personalized coaching to help freedivers achieve their individual depth and potential. As an AIDA Instructor Trainer and Judge Instructor, he has taught thousands of freedivers across all AIDA courses.

Leveraging his vast experience as an athlete, instructor, judge, and organizer in propelled freediving, Pim developed the Master Class NLT/VWT to promote safety in the deepest freediving disciplines and has created several courses for AIDA. He offers instruction in English, Dutch, and German.
