AIDA held its 34th Freediving World Championships in Wakayama, Japan—marking only the second time in AIDA’s history that the World Championships have been hosted in Japan. The first took place in Okinawa in 2010 as a team competition. This time, the 34th AIDA Pool World Championships was an individual event, drawing remarkable global attention.
With 248 athletes from 48 countries, it became the largest freediving world championship in history.
Immersion Freediving was proud to contribute to the success of the event, with Pim Vermeulen serving as President of the Jury and Aruna Yamashita as Safety Manager. The judging team comprised 22 members (8 judges and 14 judge assistants), while the safety team included 20 professionals—making both the largest teams at this world-class event.
It was an intense week for all staff, with long, demanding days. But the results were outstanding, featuring several World Records, Continental Records, and numerous National Records.
