Immersion Freediving, in partnership with Lawom Freediving, successfully hosted the second AIDA Junior Judge Course in the Philippines, covering both pool and depth disciplines. This edition was particularly memorable, as our team also officiated two AIDA World Record (WR)-status competitions alongside the course, giving participants a unique opportunity to combine classroom learning with real-world judging experience.
Between course sessions, we conducted two major competitions. The first was a WR-status pool competition, followed by a six-day WR-status depth competition. Both events were exceptionally well organized and showcased an impressive level of athletic performance. By the end of the competitions, athletes had achieved three World Records and eight Continental Records, highlighting the outstanding level of competition.
One of the course’s greatest strengths was its hands-on approach. All Junior Judge Course participants volunteered as judges throughout the competitions, applying their newly acquired knowledge in a live competitive environment under the guidance of experienced instructors. This practical experience proved invaluable in preparing them for future judging roles. Two course participants also competed as athletes, demonstrating the versatility and commitment of the freediving community.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Mabini, the course benefited from excellent sea conditions and the warm hospitality of the local community, creating an ideal environment for learning, competition, and collaboration.
The course and both competitions were expertly organized by Allan Vitor Jr., founder of Lawom Freediving. His dedication, professionalism, and attention to detail ensured the smooth running of every aspect of the events and contributed greatly to their success.
Following another outstanding edition of the AIDA Junior Judge Course and competitions, we are already looking forward to returning to Mabini next year to continue our partnership with Lawom Freediving and further support the growth of the freediving community in the Philippines.
